CHRYSTL RIJKEBOER

Nasty Women, The Handmaid’s Tale.

September 19 to 28 - Galerie du Nord, Buikslotermeerplein 1730, Amsterdam
The founders of Nasty Women London and Nasty Women Alkmaar are once again joining forces to curate a powerful exhibition together to showcase the best of their "nasty talent. THE REVOLUTION IS HERE!
Donald Trump's re-election as president of the United States exposes the disturbing parallels between the speculative fiction of Margaret Atwood's novel The Handmaid's Tale (1985) and today's harsh reality. The book, banned at the time because of its themes around feminism, religious extremism, LGBTQ+ representation, sexuality, violence and authoritarianism, has since been described by the New York Times as the "Patron Saint of Feminist Dystopia."
In this exhibition, Nasty artists respond to these themes and more, through a wide range of art forms.
The exhibition offers a diverse and inclusive space where women share their stories through various forms of mixed media art. In a time of global uncertainty - with Trump's renewed power, as well as the wars in Gaza and Ukraine - we want to bring the community together.
It is a time to reflect on our differences, our similarities and our strengths.

Participating artists: Dorrit Klomp, Saskia de Rooy, Lotte Fleur, Godelieve Smulders, Air conditioning Caravan, Ronja Ulvfot, Marcella Perrusquia, A.J. Meulenhof, Sonya Wilson, Chrystl Rijkeboer, Erna Kuik, Y. Visser, S.D. Wilson, S.S.M. Bakker, Rika Maje Deuvel, Alexandra van der Leeuw and Helen Roeten.

‘CHAOS’.

During the Pentecost days, 7, 8 & 9 June, I will exhibit solo in the church of ‘de Woude’ in Noord Holland.
In the exhibition ‘CHAOS’ I will show a selection of works from the past 7 years.
On display are works about: ‘Living together during Corona’, mothers who can hardly offer their children safety in difficult circumstances and a ‘Trump figure’, who, together with his cronies, is bringing the masses to damnation.

Mothers.

Mothers, my symbol for 'nourishment, trust and safety'. Something that is no longer self-evident in many places in the world these days. Wars and starvation are spreading across our world. Mothers are powerless against these future-destroying forces, only their unconditional motherly love is what they have to offer.
All animals are named purely based on personal association about their country of origin or simply on feeling.

Ceramic cuddly toy project, part 3.

This one is special made for Nadesh's wedding.

Ceramic cuddly toy project, part 2.

Memories of our youth. What's more emotional than our own cuddly toy. It gave us 'joy', 'love', 'consolation' and 'happiness'. The world was too small when it was lost or forgotten somewhere. I started a ceramic cuddly toy project. The older the better! For 400 euro I'll copy your personal toy in ceramics.
