Nasty Women, The Handmaid’s Tale.
Sep 13, 2025
September 19 to 28 - Galerie du Nord, Buikslotermeerplein 1730, Amsterdam
The founders of Nasty Women London and Nasty Women Alkmaar are once again joining forces to curate a powerful exhibition together to showcase the best of their "nasty talent. THE REVOLUTION IS HERE!
Donald Trump's re-election as president of the United States exposes the disturbing parallels between the speculative fiction of Margaret Atwood's novel The Handmaid's Tale (1985) and today's harsh reality. The book, banned at the time because of its themes around feminism, religious extremism, LGBTQ+ representation, sexuality, violence and authoritarianism, has since been described by the New York Times as the "Patron Saint of Feminist Dystopia."
In this exhibition, Nasty artists respond to these themes and more, through a wide range of art forms.
The exhibition offers a diverse and inclusive space where women share their stories through various forms of mixed media art. In a time of global uncertainty - with Trump's renewed power, as well as the wars in Gaza and Ukraine - we want to bring the community together.
It is a time to reflect on our differences, our similarities and our strengths.
Participating artists: Dorrit Klomp, Saskia de Rooy, Lotte Fleur, Godelieve Smulders, Air conditioning Caravan, Ronja Ulvfot, Marcella Perrusquia, A.J.
