Inspired by a journey to New Zealand, where the majestic landscapes and ancient trees left a profound impression, the series Tree People was born. The kauri trees, some more than 3,500 years old, are also under threat from disease and large-scale logging. In New Zealand, efforts are being made to protect them by granting nature legal personhood. With my work, I give shape to that idea: I turn trees into people to reveal both their strength and their vulnerability.
